Enable Email Double-Opt In

Plans: All plans Platforms: Shopify and WooCommerce

Overview

AfterShip Email’s Double opt-in allows you to verify the intent of the customers who subscribe to receive your emails or join mailing lists. It involves two steps to confirm their subscription:

Initial subscription: When a user expresses interest in subscribing to an email list or newsletter, they provide their email address through a signup form or another means.

Confirmation email: After the initial subscription, the user receives a confirmation email that includes a verification link. They are asked to click on the link to confirm their subscription.

AfterShip Email audiences are single opt-in by default: someone fills out and submits your form or popup and they're added to your audience as a subscribed email contact right away. Double opt-in ensures that the person who subscribed indeed wants to receive emails from you. By clicking the verification link, the user confirms their intention, and only then will they be added to the mailing list.

How is double opt-in beneficial?

Implementing a double opt-in process helps you maintain a high-quality and engaged subscriber base while maintaining your domain reputation. It reduces the chances of accidental or fake subscriptions and ensures that users have actively chosen to receive communications. Additionally, it can help with anti-spam laws and regulations compliance in some countries.

Enable double opt-in in AfterShip Email

Opt-in settings apply to AfterShip signup forms, popups, and third-party sources like Shopify, Klaviyo, Wisepops, Privy, etc.,

Go to Settings in your AfterShip Email settings.
Click Double opt-in to access its settings page.
For the double opt-in function to operate properly, configure the following settings.

Set up double opt-in confirmation email

Enable the Email double opt-in by shifting the toggle to the right. By default, the status will be disabled, but we highly recommend enabling it to safeguard the interest of your business.

The editor to customize the subscription confirmation email will open automatically once you enable double opt-in.

The user-friendly drag-and-drop email editor hosts basic to advanced functionalities to help you personalize the content and layout of your double opt-in emails to align with your brand identity and messaging.

a. Settings: Edit email name, subject line, preview text, and sender info to suit your requirements. If you don’t wish to display AfterShip branding in the footer of your email, select the checkbox for Remove "Powered by AfterShip"

Settings

b. Content: Customize the layout and messaging of the email template to incorporate crucial information with flexible and editable blocks and sections. Click + Add section to add the section of your choice.

Content

Add custom code blocks for greater customization and control over the design and functionality of the email by writing or inserting HTML and CSS directly into the email template.

Use predefined layouts and structures within the email editor to quickly craft compelling content and strategic messaging perfectly aligned with your brand's visual identity and style guidelines without writing a single line of code.

Layouts

Customize your email header to include your company logo, name, or any branding elements that help recipients quickly identify who the email is from.

Header

Revamp your email footer to include your company’s contact details, including address, phone number, and social media links. Add unsubscribe link or button to ensure compliance with anti-spam laws and provide recipients with an easy way to opt out of future communications.

Footer

Each content block allows you to set its background color, visibility settings, and padding.

Additional content settings

Insert merge tags wherever you want personalized information to appear for each recipient from your contact list or database. For example, address your customers by first name or last name |CONTACT_FNAME| or |CONTACT_LNAME| or strategically place the verification link to ensure maximum click-through |CONFIRM_SUBSCRIPTION_URL| .

Available merge tags

c. Style: Customize the appearance and formatting of various elements within an email template including text, buttons, header, footer, and email background.

Style

Once email editing is complete, Save the changes and click Submit for review.

For compliance reasons, your email will be reviewed before becoming active, which will take 1 to 3 hours. We recommend disabling double opt-in till the time your email is under review as new subscribers won’t be able to subscribe until your email is approved.

Set up trigger settings

You can decide which subscribers will receive a double opt-in confirmation message when they subscribe.

You can select customers who subscribe via

a. AfterShip Email generated popups or sign up forms
b. Third party sources, i.e., customers who subscribe via popups and sign up forms displayed through Klaviyo, Shopify, Privy and other supported apps.

Configure confirmation success page

After subscribers click the confirmation link/button in the confirmation email, they are redirected to a confirmation page and shown a success message.

Configure this success message to thank subscribers for confirming their subscription and reassure them that they will start receiving emails shortly.

Edit the title and description of the success page with our simple editor to best convery your gratitude and what they can expect moving forward.
You can have a look at the preview of the message you’d like to sent to your customers below the description editor.
Click Save to complete the double opt-in set up
