How to Send Browse Abandonment Emails
Plans: Premium, Enterprise Platforms: Shopify
Keeping your customers' attention is a battle, especially in times when they have endless brands and options to choose from. However, with customers who have already trusted your brand enough to share their contact information, a rough slope becomes a lot smoother when someone browsing your website decides to bounce without taking any action
Browse abandonment email is the best marketing tactic to re-engage your store’s window shoppers, return them to your store, and recapture those lost conversions. Setting up and scheduling these emails with AfterShip Email will allow you to utilize customer data to further personalize your messages, such as with product recommendations or incentives, based on their purchase journey to regain their interest.
Go to Emails and SMS in your AfterShip Email admin
Go to Flows > Browse abandonment > Get started
You will land on the email flow editor. Configure the following settings that will trigger this email flow
a. Status: Enable the status to activate the browse abandonment email flow
b. Flow name: Input the name of the flow for easy identification in case you are about to set up multiple flows around the browse abandonment scenario
c. Logic: Under the Logic section, you’ll see three blocks Trigger split, Conditional split and Random split
Trigger split: Trigger splits are the conditions highly related to the Trigger event and will split into Yes and No paths
Each trigger will be specific to the kind of email you are sending. For browse abandonment emails, you are allowed to choose from Viewed a product from or Viewed a product not from as your trigger event
You can further define the value of these triggers by selecting the product list or Collection the customer interacted with but did not put anything in the cart
The product list and collections will be synced from your Shopify store
Customers who will meet the set conditions will enter the Yes and the rest will enter the No
For every Yes and No paths, you can assign a consecutive action like
- Send an email or an SMS based on the audience that entered both the paths
- You can further split the Yes or No audience based on additional conditions and apply consecutive actions to them to better cater to their needs
For example, if 20 out of 100 customers who entered the browse abandonment flow met the defined trigger events and entered the Yes path, you can further split the remaining 80 customers randomly or by applying conditional split and personalize their journeys.
This way you can personalize the messaging for different audiences based on their browsing, order, and purchase history once you are sure they are indeed the ones who had the purchase intent but abandoned their search mid-way.
Conditional split: Conditional splits are the general conditions and will split into Yes and No paths
a. The triggers supported under conditional split are general and not specific to the kind of email you are sending. These conditions follow the lines of your customer’s cart behavior, existing campaign interactions, shopping behavior, and general attributes.
Random split: This lets you randomly split your recipients into two groups (A and B) so that you can send different notifications and gauge their effectiveness
e. Time delay: In the Timing section, you get the Time delay block. It comes in handy when you don’t want two actions to take place back-to-back or if you want to put some time in between steps
f. In the Actions section, you get Send email and Send SMS blocks. Since we are following the email flow, you will see the Send email action in the flow by default.
g. To insert logics, time delay, and actions in the flow, long press a particular section and drag it across the screen on the flow editor and drop it on any of the plus (+) signs where you want to insert the section.
To customize the messaging, look, and appearance of the browse abandonment email template, click the Send email block. You will be taken to the email editor to edit the general email Settings, Content, and Style.
