Managing Non-Returnable Items with Shopify Line Items Properties

Plans : All plans Platforms : Shopify

Overview

While product tags can be used to manage blocklists, you can also leverage the Shopify Line Item Property to block certain items from being returned.

In Shopify, a line item refers to an individual product or variant that is added to a cart or order. Each line item represents a specific product, along with its details such as quantity, price, and any customizations (like color, size, or engraving) made by the customer. When a customer places an order, each item they buy is listed as a separate line item in the order.

A line item property refers to additional information or custom options associated with a specific product in a customer's order. To learn more about Shopify Line Item Properties, visit the official documentation .

AfterShip Property

For AfterShip Returns, use the following name/value pairs.

Name: ASRC

Value: "Final Sale"

Once a product is assigned the Final Sale value, it will be marked as a non-returnable item on the returns page.

To hide the property on the customer-facing side, use _ASRC as the property name. Shopify will not display property names that start with an underscore (_).

FAQs

1. Can I still return an item marked as `Final Sale`?

Yes, you can either add the item to the allowlist, or reach out to support to create a special return for the customer.

2. Do I need to set anything up in the Admin for this to work?

No setup is required in the Shopify Admin. The Line Item Property will work immediately without any additional configuration.

3. How does this Line Item appear in Shopify?

You can view both versions of the Line Item in the screenshot below. For a seamless checkout experience, we recommend using _ASRC: Final Sale to hide the property from customers.
