Manage AfterShip Payment Details

Manage AfterShip Payment Details: follow setup steps, configure key options, verify behavior, and troubleshoot workflow issues, and avoid setup errors.

Written by Shared ENG Seat

Overview

If you are on AfterShip paid plan, you can access your invoice(s) and update the existing payment method. Please note that updating the existing payment method, in no manner, will affect your current shipments or existing shipment quota.

For users with Shopify integration, billing may be routed through Shopify Payments instead of being managed directly in AfterShip. This setup may affect how payment methods are updated.

Update payment method

  1. Log in to your AfterShip account.

  2. In the AfterShip dashboard, click organization name.

  3. Navigate to the Billing > Payment and invoices > Invoices section under Organization settings.

  4. Click Update payment method.

  5. Enter the card details and click Save.

Note for Shopify-connected billing

If your AfterShip account is integrated with Shopify, billing is managed through Shopify Payments. To update your payment method, you need to update it directly in your Shopify account. The steps listed above apply only to users managing billing directly in AfterShip.

Troubleshooting payment method issues

  • Why can’t I enter a credit card for billing?
If your payment method shows Shopify, billing is routed through Shopify Payments. To pay by credit card directly:

    1. Remove the Shopify store connection from your AfterShip account.

    2. Attempt the plan upgrade again. This will allow you to enter credit card details directly in AfterShip.

  • Expired cards
If AfterShip is attempting to charge an expired card, ensure you update the payment method in the appropriate platform:

    • For Shopify-connected billing, update the card in Shopify.

    • For direct AfterShip billing, update the card in the AfterShip admin portal.

Switching billing between Shopify stores

AfterShip billing is tied to the Shopify store that originally subscribed. If you need to switch billing to a different Shopify store, follow these steps:

  1. Cancel the current AfterShip subscription associated with the old Shopify store.

  2. Re-subscribe to AfterShip from the desired (new) Shopify store.

Important considerations:

  • Canceling your subscription may affect your current plan and settings.

  • Legacy plans are no longer available. Once canceled, you cannot revert to a previous legacy plan.

  • Review the available feature-based plans (Essential, Pro, Premium, Enterprise) before proceeding.

You can easily check the total number of invoices issued to you directly from the Billing > Payment and invoices > Invoices section under the Organization settings. It prevents payment-related quarrels and fosters a long-lasting relationship.

  • You can see the invoice ID.

  • You can see the status of the invoice and the amount paid.

  • Upon clicking the invoice log, you will be taken to the detailed invoice page with all the information related to the amount you paid for an AfterShip product, taxes, and discount.

  • You can download the invoices in PDF format, if required. It allows you to maintain your personal record of expenses. Click the downward arrow button or on the detailed invoice page, select Download as PDF.
