Display Product Recommendations in Tracking Emails

Overview


AfterShip Tracking allows merchants to send automated email notifications to customers regarding the status of their shipments. This empowers businesses to provide real-time tracking information to customers through different communication channels, including email. By incorporating product recommendations in these shipment updates, businesses can engage customers and drive additional sales during the post-purchase phase.


This also helps them to capitalize on an engaged moment in the customer journey, offering a convenient and personalized shopping experience that drives additional revenue.


Where to add product recommendations in an email?


You can add product recommendations in the following locations:


  • Go to Notifications > Flows > Email editor
  • Go to Notifications > Email templates > Email editor

How to add a product recommendation section


1. Drag-and-drop email editor


  1. Move to the Layers tab.
  2. Click +Add section > select Product recommendations.



2. Advanced email editor:


  1. Go to the Blocks tab.
  2. Click Pre-built > select Product recommendations.



Select product source


Once done, select the store under Product source. If you have connected multiple stores with AfterShip, choose the one for which you want to show product recommendations.



1. For commerce API users


  • If you import orders using the Commerce API, the product source corresponds to the as-store-id header used in the Create an order and Create a product API requests.



  • To use all possible recommendation types, make sure you have imported stores via Create a store, orders via Create an order, & products via Create a product requests. Also, make sure to select the store you want to use as the product source for recommendations on the tracking emails.



2. For eCommerce platform users


If you use an eCommerce platform connector, the product source you select is the store connections available on your app connection page. 



Select recommendation type


AfterShip supports multiple product recommendation strategies:


  • Next LLM – Predicts the next product a customer is most likely to purchase based on real-time shopping behavior and product data across all connected stores in AfterShip.


  • Best sellers(AI powered) – Identifies your store’s top-selling products from the last 30 days and ranks them by sales amount for recommendations.


  • Frequently bought together(AI-powered) – Uses the items in the customer’s order and analyzes your store’s orders from the last 30 days to recommend other products that are often bought together.


If no relevant product recommendation can be identified, AfterShip recommendation logic automatically falls back to Best sellers. This may happen when a product is new and does not yet have complementary items, or for first orders with a single item.


  • Custom strategy – Allows you to select more than 10 pre-made rules and create custom “if-then” logic. Learn more in the custom recommendations rules guide.



Customize recommendation section content


You can customize how product recommendations appear in tracking emails:


  1. Under the Content options, select the elements you want to display, such as Show product name, Show product price, Show compare-at price, and Show buy button.


  • Customize the CTA button text (for example, “Shop now”).


  1. Customize the layout of the recommended products by selecting the preferred number of rows and columns for the email.
  2. Give your recommendation section a suitable Title and add a Description to offer more details about the section.


  • You can also insert merge tags in the title and description to add a touch of personalization to your tracking emails.
  • Wherever the merge tags are inserted, our system will auto-populate relevant data from the store database. 


Example: |CONTACT_FNAME|, you might also like. In the email, this will be shown as John, you might also like.


  1. Define the border radius and font weight of the CTA button displayed under each product recommendation.
  2. Define the shape of the image of the product recommendation. You can choose between a rectangle and a square.
  3. Select the device(s): All devices, Desktop, and/or mobile, on which you want the product recommendations block to be visible when customers open their tracking emails.
  4. Configure the top and bottom radius of the product recommendation section in the email.
