Display Product Recommendations in Tracking Emails

Overview



AfterShip Tracking allows merchants to send automated email notifications to customers regarding the status of their shipments. This empowers businesses to provide real-time tracking information to customers through different communication channels, including email.

By incorporating product recommendations in these shipment updates businesses can engage customers and drive additional sales during the post-purchase phase. This also helps them to capitalize on an engaged moment in the customer journey, offering a convenient and personalized shopping experience that drives additional revenue.

AfterShip Tracking supports two ways to display product recommendations on the branded tracking page.

Enable AfterShip Tracking product recommendations



Log in to your AfterShip Tracking admin dashboard.
Go to Notifications > Flows.
Select the flow for which you want to customize the email content. Find the complete list of supported statuses here.
Click Edit.

If you want to create a new event.
Click Create flow.
Select the event you want to customize the email for and click Create.
In the flow editor, select Send email > Edit.

Once on the email editor screen, select how you would like to create email content from the top dropdown menu.

Production recommendations are only supported for easy and drag-and-drop email editors.

Move to the Content tab and click +Add section.
Select Product recommendations under the Sales boost category. Click Add to add them to your email body.

Select AfterShip Tracking as your Recommendation engine.
Once done, select the store under Product source. If you have connected multiple stores with AfterShip, choose the one for which you want to show product recommendations.

Available recommendation types are: AI-powered recommendations, Product collection, Manual selection, and Based on product condition.

a. Manual selection: It means you have to select products manually that you want to recommend to recipients.
b. Product collection: It involves selecting a particular collection that you've created for your store and recommending the products it contains. By default, we consider the home page collection, so change it if you want to recommend the products of any other collection.
c. Based on product condition: Under this, you can set a condition based on the product tag and category that you’ve set on your store.

Select the condition and add a value to that condition.

Example: If you’ve selected the Product category is as the condition and Shirt as the value of that condition, the recommended products will be from your store's Shirt product category. Please note that the products must be categorized according to the value defined, in this case, Shirt in your Shopify platform.

d. AI recommendations: We will recommend products based on our AI algorithms. You can decide whether you want to recommend your top-selling products, recently viewed products, frequently viewed together, or frequently purchased together products.

Here's how our algorithm works:

Additional considerations1. Recently viewed product recommendations are only available for users with a Shopify store connection.In case AfterShip cannot locate a relevant product for recommendation, the recommendation logic will instead consider Best sellers by default. This occurs when either the product is new and lacks complementary items, or when it is the first order consisting of a single item.
2. To enable the Recently Viewed recommendation feature, AfterShip will need to add a script to your store page to track your customers' browsing behavior. Before we do this, we will prompt you with a pop-up window to request your permission for data collection.

Select the Number of columns and Number of products across the columns you want to show in the tracking emails. Drag the radio button to the right or left to define the number.
For columns 3 is the maximum limit whereas the number of products that can be displayed across these columns is 24.

Customize recommendation section content



Click checkboxes under the Content option as per your choice, e.g., Show product name, Show product price, Show compare at price, Show buy button.

Configure the text for the Shop now button.

Give your recommendation section a suitable Title and add a Description to offer more details about the section.

You can also insert merge tags in the title and description to add a touch of personalization to your tracking emails.
Wherever the merge tags are inserted, our system will auto-populate relevant data from the store database.

Example: |CONTACT_FNAME|, you might also like. In the email, this will be shown as John, you might also like.

Define the border radius and font weight of the CTA button displayed under each product recommendation.
Define the shape of the image of the product recommendation. You can choose between a rectangle and a square.
Select the device(s)—All devices, Desktop, and/or mobile you want the product recommendations block to be visible when the customers open their tracking emails.
Configure the top and bottom radius of the product recommendation section in the email.
