Getting Started with Tracking Copilot
Overview
Tracking Copilot is an experimental AI-powered assistant built into AfterShip Tracking. It is designed to enhance the logistics workflow by helping you to explore shipment insights, analyze performance metrics, and better understand the product.
Using everyday language, you can ask questions and get answers in seconds. This streamlines shipment tracking and logistics decision-making without building filters, running reports, and navigating through the dashboard manually.
What Tracking Copilot can do
Tracking Copilot supports a wide range of use cases to help you work faster and smarter:
1. Find shipments and orders
If you need specific shipment or order information, Copilot can quickly retrieve filtered lists of shipments or orders based on various criteria such as date ranges, shipment status, origin, destination, carrier, etc. You can also combine multiple factors in a single request. Simply describe what you're looking for, and Copilot will provide the relevant data.
The following are some of the example requests you can ask:
- âShow me a list of shipments currently in exceptionsâ
- âList shipments that haven't been updated in the last 5 daysâ
- âProvide a list of orders that are partially fulfilledâ
- âFind all shipments from New York to California in the past monthâ
- âShow me delayed shipments for carrier XYZâ

Read this help article to know more about the available filters.
2. Analyze shipment data using natural language queries
Copilot transforms complex data analysis into simple conversations. You can ask analytical questions in plain language â whether itâs counts, averages, percentages, rankings, or comparisons. Copilot will instantly navigate and analyze your shipment data to deliver clear, actionable insights.
It can perform a wide range of analytical tasks, including counting shipments, calculating performance metrics, and identifying key qualitative patterns, all without the need to manually build reports.
The following are some of the example questions you can ask:
- "How many shipments were imported last month?"
- "What's my average transit time over the last 7 days?"
- "Which carrier shipped the highest volume last week?"
- "What percentage of my shipments arrived on time this quarter?"
- "Show me the top 5 destinations by shipment volume"
It returns fast, accurate insights from your shipment data.

Check out our help article for available metrics and dimensions for what Copilot can analyze.
3. Visualize data with charts
When numbers are not enough for proper interpretation, you can ask Copilot to turn your data into visual charts. This can make it easier to identify trends, compare performance across carriers or time periods, and quickly spot patterns or outliers at a glance.
Supported chart types:
- Column
- Line
- Bar
- Area
- Pie
- Donut
- Table
The following are some of the example questions you can ask:
- âShow me a bar chart of shipment volume by carrier this monthâ
- âPlot my on-time delivery rate as a line chart over the last 90 daysâ
- âCreate a pie chart of shipments by destination countryâ
- âShow a donut chart of exception types for the past weekâ
- âCompare transit times across carriers in a column chartâ

Switch chart types
After Copilot generates a chart, you can also ask to change how your data is displayed. For example:
- âSwitch this to a line chartâ
- âShow this as a table insteadâ
However, this only changes the visualization chart while the underlying data remains unchanged.
Choose the right chart type
- Use line or area charts for trends over time
- Use bar or column charts for comparing categories side by side
- Use pie or donut charts for proportion understanding
Key insights
Every chart generated by a new query in Copilot includes a key insights summary. This summary is automatically created below the chart and states what the data actually means.
The summary includes:
- Key takeaways â Most important findings, stated with specific numbers
- Notable pattern or anomalies â A trend, outlier, or comparison worth paying attention to.
You do not need to interpret data manually; Copilot does it for you.

5. Generate dashboard summaries
Copilot can turn key insights from your analytics dashboards into a clear, easy-to-understand summary, and no deep data digging is required. Itâs ideal for quick reviews, sharing updates with stakeholders, or getting a high-level overview before exploring deeper insights.
Supported dashboards include:
- Shipments
- Order-to-delivery time
- Transit time
- On-time shipments
- Exceptions

You just need to ask something like "Summarize my on-time shipments dashboard" and Copilot will create simple summary of the dashboard.
6. Get product guidance and support
Beyond data analysis, Copilot serves as your personal product guide, helping you navigate Tracking's features and functionality. Whether you're a new user learning the basics or an experienced user exploring advanced features, Copilot provides step-by-step instructions, clear explanations, and practical examples.
The following are the areas where Copilot can help:
- âHow do I set up tracking pages for my customers?â

Just ask your question in your preferred language, and Copilot will respond accordingly.
Getting started with Copilot
Use suggested templates
To help you get started and formulate more effective queries, Copilot offers suggested templates for common questions and tasks. These templates serve as starting points that you can select and customize based on your specific needs, or use them as an inspiration to create your own queries.

Best practices for better results
- Be specific with timeframes and criteria: Searching queries like âShow me shipments delayed more than 3 days in the last week from carrier ABCâ instead of âShow me delayed shipmentsâ works best and gives more accurate result.
- Ask follow-up questions: Copilot remembers the context of your conversation. You can refine results by further asking like âBreak this down by carrierâ or âNow show me just the ones from last weekâ without repeating your original query.
- Use charts for comparisons: When comparing carriers, time periods, or regions, visual charts can reveal trends and patterns more clearly than tables of numbers.
- Start broad, then narrow down: Begin with a high-level query to get an overview, then drill into the details step by step based on what you find.
Limitations
1. Data retention
Copilot can access and analyze data only from a limited time period:
- Shipments from the past 120 days
- Orders from the past 12 months (1 Year)
To analyze older data, use the Analytics Reports (available on plans with extended data retention).
2. What Copilot cannot do?
Tracking Copilot is designed for querying, analyzing, and giving insights of your existing Tracking data. It cannot:
- Modify shipments
- Update statuses
- Change settings or perform actions on your behalf
- Access data outside the Tracking product
If your query is too broad or unclear, Copilot may ask you to be more specific. However, if there isnât enough data to give you a reliable answer, it will let you know.
FAQs
1. How do I analyze data older than the allowed retention period?
Use analytics reports if your plan includes extended data retention.
2. What if Copilot doesnât understand my question?
Try rephrasing it using simpler or more specific language. You can also use suggested templates.
