How to Add Carriers Accounts

Overview


Adding carriers to your AfterShip Tracking account helps improve carrier auto-detection and ensures tracking updates are retrieved correctly. Some carriers can be added and used immediately, while others require you to add and connect a carrier account before tracking updates can be received. This article explains how to add carriers and what to expect during the process.

Before you start: Carrier types


AfterShip supports two types of carriers:


  • Global carriers


Global carriers are supported through AfterShipโ€™s built-in integrations and do not require you to connect your own carrier account. Tracking updates are retrieved automatically once the carrier is added.


  • Connection specific carriers


These carriers require you to connect your own carrier account after adding them. Until the account is connected, tracking updates will not be retrieved. Carriers that require connection are clearly labeled during the add-carrier process.


How to add carriers


Follow the steps below to add carriers to your AfterShip Tracking account.


  1. Log in to your AfterShip Tracking admin.
  2. Go to Settings > Carriers.
  3. Click Add carriers in the Carrier auto-detection section.




  1. Search for a carrier or select it from the list.
  2. Select the Ship from country if prompted.
  3. Click Add.



Once added, the carrier will appear under My carriers list.




Connecting carriers that require an account


If a carrier requires an account connection:


  • A Connect now label will be displayed next to the carrier
  • The carrier will appear under the Require carrier connection tab


To complete the setup:


  1. Click Connect now next to the carrier.
  2. Enter the required details (for example, API key or credentials).
  3. Click Connect to finish.


Until the carrier account is connected, tracking updates for that carrier will not be available.


Managing added carriers


  • You can add multiple carriers to your account.
  • Drag and reorder carriers under My Carriers to improve carrier auto-detection.
  • Remove carriers you no longer use from the carrier list.

1. Why do some carriers require connection after being added?


Some carriers require account authentication to retrieve tracking data. These carriers must be connected before tracking updates can be received.


2. Do all carriers require connection?


No. Only Connect Now / Connection specific carriers require account connection. Global carriers work without additional setup.


3. Can I add carriers later?


Yes. You can add carriers at any time from the Carriers settings page.
