Customize Shopper Actions in AfterShip Order Edits
Overview
AfterShip Order Edits allows shoppers to make changes to their orders after checkout from the Thank You page and Order Status page. Shopper actions are the options available within the Order Edits block that help merchants determine what changes shoppers can make during the order editing window.
You can choose actions available to shoppers, such as updating their address, changing the variant, applying discount codes, cancelling orders, or more. Read this article to understand the available shopper actions and customize them for your store.
How to customize Shopper Actions
- Open AfterShip Order Edits.
- Navigate to the Order Edits block page.
- Click Customize.

The editor opens with configuration settings on the left and a live shopper preview on the right.
Use the preview to review the shopper experience in both desktop and mobile views before publishing changes. This helps you understand how the Order Edits block appears across different devices.

Choose which Shopper Action to show
Each shopper action can be enabled or disabled independently. Turn on the actions that align with your store policies and fulfillment process.
Available shopper actions include:
- Edit shipping address β Allow the shopper to update delivery address details, and you can choose which address fields stay editable.
- Edit products β Includes three sub-actions: change variant, increase quantity, and reduce quantity. You can enable the required combination.
- Add product β Allows shoppers to add additional products to an existing order.
- Edit contact info β Allow shoppers to update their email address and phone number.
- Add discount code β Shoppers can apply a valid discount code to the order.
- Cancel order β Cancel the order during the editing window. You can also choose to collect the cancellation reason.
- Product recommendation β Shows AI-powered product recommendations that shoppers can add to their existing order.
Customize additional settings for Shopper Actions
Some Shopper Actions, when expanded, include additional settings that you can customize before going live.
1. Cancel order reason
If Cancel order is enabled, you can customize the cancellation reasons shown to shoppers. Add, remove, or rename the reason tags that shoppers choose to match your store policies and collect more meaningful feedback from cancelled orders.

Cancellation rescue β We offer the pre-set reasons below. We highly recommend enabling them to prevent shoppers from cancelling their orders when what they actually need is an order edit.
- Need to change shipping address
- Need to change a product
- Forgot to add a product
- Forgot to apply a discount code
When a shopper picks one of these as the cancellation reason, AfterShip rescues the order and redirects the shopper to the corresponding edit flow.

2. Product recommendation strategy
If Product recommendation is enabled, shoppers will see AI-powered product recommendations within the Order Edits block. These recommendations are generated based on the shopper's purchase behaviour and can help increase upsell opportunities.

Save your changes
Once you've finished configuring shopper actions and settings, click Save to apply your changes. The updated settings will be reflected in the Order Edits experience for eligible shoppers.
