Updated On-Site Events and Conversions Tracking
Plans: Essentials, Pro, Premium, Enterprise Platforms: Shopify
AfterShip Tracking has updated the on-site tracking for your Shopify store, allowing you to measure customer engagement and conversions more accurately. By tracking how customers interact with your tracking pages or notifications, you can gain valuable insights into the effectiveness of your post-purchase experience and optimize for better results.
As of November 26, 2024, we've updated our on-site tracking system to provide more accurate measurement of events and conversions.
These changes will only impact data collected from November 26, 2024, onwards. All historical data prior to this date will remain unchanged to ensure consistency in your reports.
You may notice changes in revenue and order conversion data as a result of the updates. These fluctuations are normal and reflect improvements in tracking accuracy.
If you notice significant changes in your data and would like to refresh your historical information, please reach out to our support team for assistance.
On-site tracking allows AfterShip to monitor how visitors behave when they interact with your tracking pages or click through notifications to visit your Shopify store. This enables AfterShip to identify these visitors and recognize them on future visits, helping you track their actions and conversions more effectively.
Setting up on-site tracking is a simple and automatic process when you connect your Shopify store to AfterShip.
Connect your Shopify store to AfterShip or install the AfterShip Tracking App from the Shopify App Store.
Once connected, AfterShip automatically adds a tracking script to your Shopify store.
The script begins collecting data whenever a customer interacts with your tracking pages or clicks on your notifications.
Ensure that your Shopify store is properly connected for the on-site tracking to work.
The current script-based tracking will soon be replaced by the Shopify pixel, so keep an eye out for updates.
AfterShip tracks customer activity in the following ways:
1. Identifying visitors:
When visitors click on your tracking pages or open notifications, the tracking script captures their actions on your site.
These interactions are linked to the original notification or tracking page the customer interacted with.
2. Tracking conversions:
A conversion is recorded when:
A visitor clicks through from a tracking page or notification to your Shopify store.
The URL includes a special tracking parameter _sc_p for identification.
If the visitor completes an order within 72 hours of clicking through, the purchase is attributed to the tracking page or notification.
If the tracking parameter is lost during cross-domain tracking, the visitor can still be identified using their cookie ID.
The tracking parameter is automatically added to the URL and will not affect your site's performance or link functionality.
