Overview



The Custom estimated delivery date (EDD) is a date that can be configured on AfterShip Tracking’s admin dashboard. It is used in cases where merchants already have a mechanism to calculate the estimated delivery date based on the shipping type, carrier, and destination.

Custom estimated delivery date will also work as one of your post-purchase EDD resources together with AI EDD, Carrier EDD, and Promised delivery date.

How is custom EDD calculated



The major component of custom EDD calculations is your transit time to different shipping locations by different carriers employing different shipping methods. If you’ve seen your business take specific time to ship shipments to certain regions, you can set up those region-specific transit times to showcase fixed EDDs to customers.

1. How are transit time rules prioritized for EDD calculation


There are two elements to your transit time rules configuration.

Default transit time: This will be considered to calculate EDDs for shipments that are not covered by any other custom transit time settings.
Custom transit time(s): The custom transit time rules will be considered to calculate specific EDDs for shipments based on their destination, carrier, and shipping method.

Custom transit time rules are prioritized first to match the shipments bound for specific destinations and using specific carriers or shipping methods.
If any configured custom transit time settings do not cover a shipment, we will automatically consider default transit time settings for EDD calculations.

2. How are the custom EDDs calculated


The custom EDD calculations begin once we have the tracking information for your orders.

We use one of the following methods to calculate custom EDD, depending on the data you provide us, and are prioritized in the order listed below.

1. Custom EDD = Ship Date + Transit Time Rule

Ship date: A ship date is the date when an order is shipped from you or your warehouse to the end customer.

2. Custom EDD = Order Date + Order processing time + Transit Time Rule

Order date: It is the date when the order is placed by a customer.

Order processing time: It is the time between when an order is placed by a customer and when the order is fulfilled by the business. The order processing time will be calculated based on your shipping rules under the Ship-from locations and rules settings.

3. Custom EDD = Import date + Transit Time Rule

Import date: It is the date when the tracking information is imported to AfterShip.

Enable the custom EDD feature of AfterShip



Go to Estimated Delivery Dates (EDD) > Dashboard > Post-purchase EDD > Edit to start the configuration in your AfterShip Tracking account



Scroll down to the Custom EDD option and click Enable to activate the custom EDD calculation for your shipments

Step 1: Set up default transit time




Set up the default transit time settings in the popup window, which will be applied to any shipments not covered by custom transit time settings.

a. By default, the default transit time rules will be applied to shipments worldwide

b You get two options while setting the transit time

Date range: You can specify the days between which it will take for the product to be delivered to its ship-to location once it has been shipped from the shipping location. Consequently, the custom EDD will also be shown as a date range (timeframe) to the customers between which they can expect their orders.

Single date: You can input the exact days it will take for the product to be delivered to its ship-to location once it has been shipped from the shipping location. The exact date when the customers can expect their orders will be shown.

Business days: The transit time business days are the days that are counted as business days when the carriers undertake shipping. The Custom EDD projection will also consider the default carrier business days you have configured in the Carrier business days settings .



Step 2: Set up custom transit times


Set up transit times based on shipping zones and the active carriers and shipping methods in those zones.



Click Add transit times to add your custom transit time
Click Create Zone to add the shipping areas covered by this transit time rule. Name this zone for easy reference
Select the countries/states/regions you want to be included in this zone and click Create



Click Add carrier or shipping method and select the carrier or shipping method you want to be included in this transit time rule for EDD calculation

The shipping methods are the shipping services customers see on the checkout page to have their orders delivered to their doorsteps and will be synced from your connected Shopify store.
You can manually add your shipping method in the Add shipping method box so that even if you cannot find your shipping method in the dropdown list, you can still create your custom transit time rule.



- The manually created shipping method will automatically start showing in the dropdown list of other custom transit time rules (editing or creating) if it is saved in any one rule.



- When all the custom transit time rules with manually created shipping method are deleted, the option will be removed from the dropdown list.

Set the selected carrier’s or shipping method’s transit time. You get two options while setting the transit time

Date range: If transit time is defined as a date range, the custom EDD will also be shown as a date range (timeframe) to the customer between which they can expect their orders.

Single date: The exact date when the customers can expect their orders will be shown if this option is selected.

Business days: The transit time business days are the days that are counted as business days when the carriers undertake shipping. The Custom EDD projection will also consider the carrier-specific business days you have configured in Carrier business days settings .

If carrier-specific business days are not configured, the default business days will be considered.

You can add multiple carriers or shipping methods for one shipping zone under the same transit time rule

You can select multiple zones under the same transit time rule



You cannot set multiple transit time rules for the same shipping zone



Switch between the tabs to see the carriers and shipping methods you have configured



Click Save

Manage custom transit time rules


Click the {...} icon to edit the default or custom transit time rules
Click delete to remove any of the existing custom transit time rules

You cannot delete the default transit time rule



FAQs



1. Why can I not see shipping methods in the custom EDD dropdown list?



Currently, we only support shipping methods configured in your Shopify store. Therefore, you must connect your Shopify store and grant data access to sync your shipping methods to AfterShip Tracking.
