Adding tracking numbers for carriers that require additional parameters
FAQs
For most stores, when a tracking number is added to an order, AfterShip auto detects the carrier based on the tracking number format and the active carrier list in the user's AfterShip account.
However, if a user wants to assign a tracking number to a specific carrier, they can add it by entering the tracking number in the following format:
carrierSlug#trackingNumber
For example:
dpd#04569400023091U
This tracking number will be imported as carrier DPD and will ignore the AfterShip carrier-auto detection rule.
Some carriers, in addition to the tracking numbers, require extra parameters to get the tracking results.
They can be added in the following format:
trackingNumber:requiredParameter
or
carrierSlug#trackingNumber:requiredParameter
The examples of such carriers are listed below:
1. What is a carrier slug?
The carrier slug is a unique identifier for a carrier in AfterShip.
Carrier slugs for AfterShip supported carriers can be found here: https://www.aftership.com/courier
Select the carrier and the slug will appear in the URL.
For example, the carrier slug for DPD UK is dpd-uk (case sensitive).
2. Under what condition duplicate tracking numbers can be imported to AfterShip?
Duplicate or identical tracking numbers can be imported to AfterShip from your store only when they have different carrier slugs following the same format as mentioned in case 1.
carrierSlugX#trackingNumber
carrierSlugY#trackingNumber
For example:
ups#04569400023091U
usps#04569400023091U
If you are importing the same tracking numbers for carriers that require additional parameters, follow the format in case 2. Please bear in mind that the carrier slugs for the same tracking numbers should be different for them to be successfully imported to AfterShip correctly.
