Overview
Shopify will stop supporting ScriptTag on March 1, 2027 (Shopify changelog). AfterShip Personalization previously used ScriptTag to display recommendation widgets and other content on your storefront. It now uses Shopify's recommended App embed block instead.
To keep your widgets displaying, turn on the AfterShip Personalization App embed block in your Shopify theme. It's a one-time step that takes about a minute. If you don't turn it on before the deadline, AfterShip Personalization widgets stop displaying on your storefront.
Enable the app embed block
The steps are the same for new and existing users. You can start from either AfterShip Personalization or Shopify.
Option A: Start from AfterShip Personalization (recommended)
If the App embed block isn't on, a banner or button appears on the Getting started, Collections, Product pages, Cart, and Cross-sell widgets pages. New users see the same prompt in the last step of onboarding.
Click Enable in Shopify on the prompt.
In the Shopify theme editor that opens, make sure the AfterShip Personalization toggle under App embeds is on.
Click Save in the top-right corner.
Return to the AfterShip Personalization admin. The banner no longer appears.
Option B: Start from your Shopify admin
In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, and then click Customize on your current theme.
In the left panel, open App embeds.
Find AfterShip Personalization, and turn on the toggle.
Click Save.
Confirm the App Embed Block Is On
Return to the AfterShip Personalization admin. The prompt no longer appears, and the button shows Enabled. If you never saw a banner or prompt, the App embed block is already on and you don't need to do anything.
FAQs
1. What happens if I don't turn it on?
Starting March 1, 2027, all AfterShip Personalization content on your storefront (recommendation widgets, Smart cart, and personalized collection pages) stops displaying to your customers. No error or warning appears; the content disappears, along with the conversions it drives. Your settings and data are kept, and everything displays again as soon as you turn the App embed block on. Conversions missed in the meantime can't be recovered, so we recommend turning it on now.
2. Will this change my theme code or slow down my store?
No. The App embed block is a standard Shopify feature. It doesn't write to or change your theme files, and its script loads asynchronously, so it doesn't affect page performance. You can turn it off at any time, and your widget settings, recommendation rules, and styles are kept.
3. I have multiple themes. Do I need to turn it on for each one?
Yes. App embed settings are saved per theme. Turn it on for your published theme. If you switch to or publish a different theme later, turn it on for that theme too. Check this setting every time you change themes.
4. I installed AfterShip Personalization on or after October 1, 2026. Does this apply to me?
Yes. For installations from October 1, 2026, features work only after you turn on the App embed block. The last step of onboarding guides you through it.
5. I turned it on and saved, but widgets still don't show on my storefront. What should I check?
Check the following in order:
Make sure the toggle is on for your published theme, not a draft theme.
Make sure you clicked Save after turning on the toggle. The change doesn't take effect until you save.
Hard-refresh your storefront (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac), or open it in a private window, to rule out caching.
Make sure the widget itself is installed and turned on. The App embed block only loads AfterShip Personalization on your storefront; each widget is installed and turned on separately.
If widgets still don't show, contact our support team with your store domain, theme name, the URL of the affected page, and a screenshot of your App embeds settings.
