Overview

Instant offer lets you recommend discounted products to shoppers on the Review return page – the final step where shoppers review their return details before submitting the request. Shoppers can add recommended products to their order in a click and use their refund value toward the purchase without leaving the return flow.

This gives you an opportunity to sell clearance, final-sale, or slow-moving products while keeping some or all of the refund value in your store.

Before you start

You must ensure:

  • Your return policy uses item-level resolutions.

  • Set up a checkout method for shoppers to pay any remaining balance.

Steps: Set up Instant offer

  1. Log in to your AfterShip Returns admin account.

  2. Navigate to Return policy > Refunds and exchanges.

  3. Find the Instant offer and turn it on.

  4. Under Display text, customize the heading and description that shoppers see on the Review return page.

  5. Under Product filters, choose which products can appear in the offer:

    • Keep the toggle off to make all in-stock products in your store eligible.

    • Turn the toggle on and filter products by Collection, Product tag, or Product type.

  6. Under Discount, choose whether to offer an additional discount on the recommended products.

    • Turn on the discount and enter a Percentage off value.

    • Keep the discount off to show the product's current price without a discount badge. This can be useful for products that are already priced low.

    How discounts appear to shoppers

When you apply a percentage discount, shoppers see the discounted price, original price, and a discount badge.

For example, a $30 product with 10% off appears as $27 with a 10% OFF badge.

If the discount is turned off, shoppers see the product's current price without a discount badge.

  7. Under Checkout method, confirm how shoppers will pay if their refund value does not cover the added items.

  8. Set Status to On.

  9. Save your settings.

Shoppers experience

Once Instant offer is enabled and eligible products are available, shoppers see it during the return flow:

  1. The shopper selects the items they want to return and reaches the Review your return page.

  2. Instant offer displays 4 to 12 in-stock products on the page. Each product card shows the product image, name, offer price, original price, and discount badge when applicable.

  3. The shopper selects Add. If the product has multiple variants, they choose a variant first.

  4. Selects Submit.

The next step depends on the value of the refund:

  • Refund value covers the added items: The return is submitted as usual.

  • There is a remaining balance: The shopper pays the difference using your configured checkout method. After successful payment, the return is submitted automatically.

  • Payment fails: The return is not submitted. The shopper can try the payment again or remove the added items.

How are added items ordered

The order created for added items depends on the return scenario:

Return scenario

What happens to the added items

Return only (refund, no exchange)

A separate new order is created.

Return + exchange

The added items are included in the existing exchange order.

In both cases, the refund value is applied first. The shopper pays any remaining balance.

Track Instant offer performance

You can view Instant offer performance from Analytics.

Operations

The Operations section includes:

  • Instant offer revenue — Revenue generated through Instant offer.

  • Instant offer revenue ratio — Instant offer revenue divided by total return value, multiplied by 100 (instant offer revenue ÷ total return value × 100)

Upsell performance

Revenue generated through Instant offer is also included alongside your other upsell revenue sources.

Why don't I see Instant offer on my return page?

Check whether the following requirements are met:

  • Instant offer is turned on.

  • A checkout method is configured. Shoppers may need to pay a remaining balance, so Instant offer stays hidden until a checkout method is available.

  • At least 4 eligible products are available. Products must be in stock and published. If your product filter matches fewer than 4 products, widen the filter.

  • Your store is on Shopify with a Premium or higher plan, including Enterprise.

  • Your return policy uses item-level resolutions.

FAQs

1. Can a shopper pay entirely with their refund?

Yes. The refund value is applied first. If it does not cover the full value of the added items, the shopper pays the remaining balance at checkout. The return is submitted automatically after successful payment.

2. Can I choose which products are shown?

Yes. You can control which products are eligible using Collection, Product tag, or Product type filters.

From the eligible products, Instant Offer automatically displays 4 to 12 products.

3. Is there a limit to how many products a shopper can add?

No. Shoppers can add as many recommended products as they want, including multiple quantities of the same product. The return summary and remaining amount to pay are updated as they add or remove products.

4. Can shoppers return or exchange products purchased through Instant offer?

Yes. Products purchased through Instant offer follow your regular return policy, including your exchange-of-exchange settings.

5. How is Instant offer different from Shop now?

Shop now opens a full shopping experience where shoppers can use their refund value to purchase anything in your store.

Instant offer shows a smaller, curated selection of products directly on the final step of the return flow, just before the shopper submits the return.
