Overview
Automatic label generation is crucial to optimize your returns process and reduce manual efforts. AfterShip Returns lets you create return labels automatically, rather than manually uploading them.
💡Do you know?
Return requests can be auto-approved in your AfterShip Returns admin with automation rules.
Currently, the auto-label feature is supported for 23 carriers, including UPS, USPS via Endicia, DHL, DHL Germany, DPD NL, FedEx, Australia Post, Seko Logistics (Omni Parcel), Star Track, Canada Post, Correos Spain, and many more
Steps to enable auto-label generation
Go to Return routing rules in your AfterShip Returns admin.
Select the return zone and the corresponding routing rule for which you'd like to enable this feature.
Click the three horizontal dots and select Edit rule
Ensure a return location is selected and the appropriate carrier/service (e.g., DHL) is configured for the rule.
Save your changes and test label generation from a return request.
If you wish to set up a new routing rule for a return zone, click Add routing rule and start filling in the details
5. Scroll down to the Return shipping methods section and turn on the Ship with a return label toggle button.
The "Ship with a return label" option means you provide a prepaid label for the customer.
Alternatively, you can enable the "Ship with the carrier of your choice" option, allowing customers to use their own carrier.
When customers use their own carrier, ensure the return address is included in the return instructions within the applicable Return Routing Rule.
To auto-generate return labels you need to first set up your carriers, shipping, and warehouse information. Click set up shipping and start configuring your shipping information. Click Save once you're done.
Automatic label generation requires a configured carrier account in your returns system. Without this, labels cannot be auto-generated, and you may need to manually upload a label obtained from your carrier while approving each return request.
Integrated carrier accounts ensure that generated labels bill directly to your account.
Ensure that package sizes are configured as part of the setup for automatic label generation.
Follow this guide for a complete step-by-step process.
You can also set up workflows to print additional return labels for the multiple items in the same RMA based on your shipping requirements.
If you've already set up your carrier accounts and return locations, the return label will be auto-generated and would look like this. Click Edit if you want to do some changes.
In the Auto-approval section, select the checkbox to automatically approve all return requests for Ship with a return label.
Verify all the filled data before hitting the Save button.
