Overview
Rise.ai is a gift card and store credit platform for Shopify merchants.
The Rise.ai integration with AfterShip Returns lets you automatically issue store credit to customers when a return is resolved as Refund to store credit. AfterShip Returns sends the refund amount directly to Rise.ai, so you don't need to manually create or distribute gift card codes.
What's new in the current Rise.ai integration
The current Rise.ai integration improves how AfterShip Returns connects to Rise.ai and issues store credit.
If you are using older integrations, here's what has changed:
| Older integrations | New Integrations |
Connection | Requires you to manually enter a Rise.ai API key. | Uses OAuth 2.0. You can connect Rise.ai through a standard authorization flow without entering an API key. |
How store credit is issued | AfterShip Returns sends an event to a Rise.ai workflow, which then issues the store credit. | AfterShip Returns directly calls Rise.ai's Issue Store Credit API to issue the store credit. |
Duplicate Protection | Does not provide idempotency protection, so a retry or duplicate event could potentially issue store credit more than once. | Each request includes an idempotency key, which prevents the same return from issuing store credit more than once. |
Failure visibility | AfterShip Returns cannot see whether the Rise.ai workflow successfully issued the store credit. | AfterShip Returns receives a success or failure response from Rise.ai for each API request. |
Rise.ai setup | Requires a custom trigger and workflow to be configured in Rise.ai. | No workflow or custom trigger configuration is required in Rise.ai. |
Note: If you already have an older Rise.ai connection, installing the current integration automatically replaces the existing connection. You don't need to disconnect the older connection first.
Before you connect
Make sure:
You have a Rise.ai account connected to your Shopify store.
You are using a supported Premium or Enterprise AfterShip Returns plan.
Your store is on Shopify. This integration currently supports Shopify stores only.
Each Rise.ai connection can be linked to one Shopify store only. You cannot connect multiple Shopify stores through a single Rise.ai connection.
Connect Rise.ai with AfterShip Returns
In AfterShip Returns, go to Apps.
Find and select Rise.ai, then click Install app.
You'll be redirected to Rise.ai's authorization page.
Review the requested access and approve the authorization.
Rise.ai redirects you back to AfterShip Returns after authorization is complete.
Confirm that Rise.ai appears in your connected apps list.
No API key entry is required.
Configure Rise.ai as the store credit refund method
After connecting Rise.ai, configure it as the store credit provider in AfterShip Returns.
In AfterShip Returns, go to Refunds and exchanges.
Under Return policy > Refund and exchanges, find Refund to store credit.
For Refund to store credit via, select Rise.ai.
Save your settings.
Once configured, test an RMA with the Refund to store credit resolution to make sure the integration is working as expected.
Important: You don't need to create or configure a Rise.ai workflow for this integration. AfterShip Returns directly sends the store-credit request to Rise.ai.
How store credit is issued
After the integration is connected and Rise.ai is selected as the store credit issue method, AfterShip Returns can issue store credit through two refund paths:
Manual refund: You manually refund an RMA that has Refund to store credit as its resolution.
Auto-refund: An Auto-refund automation rule automatically processes an RMA with Refund to store credit as its resolution.
For each request, AfterShip Returns calls Rise.ai's Issue Store Credit API directly.
Each request includes an idempotency key associated with the return/refund event. This helps prevent the same return from issuing store credit more than once if the request is retried or duplicated.
Store credit expiration and customer notifications
The following settings are currently controlled by Rise.ai:
The store credit expiration date uses Rise.ai's default settings.
Customer notifications sent by Rise.ai use Rise.ai's default settings.
These settings cannot currently be configured from AfterShip Returns.
Currency conversion
If the order currency is different from the currency of the customer's Rise.ai wallet, AfterShip converts the credit using the wallet's currency exchange rate before issuing it.
If the currencies match, the credit is issued without conversion.
Manage store-credit refunds
Manually refund store credit to a customer
In AfterShip Returns admin, go to Returns.
Select the RMA request with Refund to store credit as the resolution.
On the RMA detail page, review the request and Approve or Reject it according to your returns policy.
If you approve the request, select Refund.
Review the refund details in the side panel.
Adjust the refund amount, if required.
Click Issue gift card.
Click Refund to confirm.
AfterShip Returns sends the store-credit request to Rise.ai, which issues the credit to the customer.
Automatically refund store credit
You can configure an Auto-refund automation rule to automatically issue store credit when an RMA meets your specified conditions.
When the rule resolves the RMA as Refund to store credit, AfterShip Returns sends the store-credit request to Rise.ai automatically.
Disconnect Rise.ai
You can disconnect Rise.ai from the Apps section in AfterShip Returns at any time.
After you disconnect Rise.ai, AfterShip Returns will no longer attempt to issue store credit through Rise.ai.
Known limitation
If the Rise.ai app is uninstalled or the Rise.ai account is suspended directly on the Rise.ai side, AfterShip Returns may not immediately detect the change.
AfterShip Returns can currently become aware of the broken connection only when a token refresh or an API call fails.
Key takeaways
Rise.ai connects to AfterShip Returns through OAuth 2.0, so no API key is required.
You don't need to configure a Rise.ai workflow or custom trigger.
AfterShip Returns directly calls Rise.ai's Issue Store Credit API when store credit needs to be issued.
Both manual refunds and Auto-refund automation rules can issue Rise.ai store credit.
Installing the current integration automatically replaces an existing older Rise.ai connection.
The integration supports Premium and Enterprise plans and Shopify stores only.
Each connection can be linked to one Shopify store.
Rise.ai's default settings control store-credit expiration and customer notifications.
If the Rise.ai connection is removed or becomes invalid on the Rise.ai side, AfterShip may detect the issue only when a token refresh or API call fails.
