Overview
AfterShip’s Membership Plan is a subscription model designed for teams and organizations. Instead of each user/team member buying a separate subscription, the company buys seats under a single organization. These seats can then be assigned to team members, who get access to the account settings and features according to their assigned roles, like admin, member, support agents, and custom roles.
1. How many seats can we add to the membership trial and paid plans?
You can add seats under the membership trial and paid plans (Team and Enterprise plans) as follows:
Plan | Billing cycle | Starting price | Seats | Key features |
Team | Monthly | $12/member/month | Unlimited | Full product access, custom roles and permissions, two-factor authentication (2FA), single sign-on (SSO) |
| Annual | $10/member/month, billed annually | Unlimited | Full product access, custom roles and permissions, two-factor authentication (2FA), single sign-on (SSO) |
| Trial |
| 10 |
|
Enterprise | Monthly or annual | Custom pricing |
| Enterprise SSO, company console, member management API |
| Trial |
| 10 |
|
2. Will the user be automatically charged for the membership plan after the trial expires?
Yes. Once the trial ends, the system automatically converts active trial seats into paid seats. Charges are applied to the saved payment method. If no payment method is added to the account, users will be asked to provide one before the subscription begins. If there are no members in the organization when the trial expires, then we won't charge.
3. Can a user with a monthly plan switch to an annual plan of the membership plan?
Yes. Users on a monthly plan can upgrade to an annual plan at any time. Once upgraded, the billing cycle will switch to annual, and any unused portion of the tracking quota in the current monthly plan may be adjusted in the final charge.
4. Will the user get charged for annual billing in one payment or monthly installments?
Annual billing is charged in one upfront payment for the full year. For example, if a seat costs $10 per month per member, the annual plan will be billed as $120 per seat, paid in one invoice.
5. If a user’s Member Plan payment fails for any reason, how long will they retain access to their account?
If a payment fails, the system will automatically retry for a short grace period (typically a few days). During this time, account access will remain available to the member. However, after repeated payment failures, member access will be suspended, but the account itself will remain active.
6. Can I add member seats to my annual plan midway through the billing cycle?
Yes. You can add additional member seats at any time during your annual billing cycle. The additional seats are added to your existing annual billing cycle and are not placed on a separate monthly billing cycle.
7. How are additional member seats billed if I add them during my annual billing cycle?
If you add member seats during an active annual billing cycle, the additional seats are prorated for the remaining time in your current billing cycle. Adding seats does not change your existing billing cycle or renewal date.
Example: You purchase an annual plan with 3 member seats on January 1, 2026, at $120 per seat. Your annual billing cycle ends on December 31, 2026.
On September 1, 2026, you add 2 more member seats. With 118 days remaining in your billing cycle, you’re charged:
$120 × 2 seats × 118 ÷ 360 days = $78.67
Your annual billing cycle still ends on December 31, 2026. When the plan renews on January 1, 2027, you’ll be billed for all 5 member seats at the full annual price.
8. Can I add additional member seats on a monthly basis to an annual plan?
No. If your organization is on an annual plan, any additional member seats you add are billed according to the ongoing annual billing cycle. They aren’t converted to a separate monthly subscription.
9. What happens to the additional member seats when my annual plan renews?
At the start of the next annual billing cycle, all member seats, including any seats added during the previous cycle, are billed at the applicable full annual price for the new cycle.
For example, if you originally purchased 3 seats and added 2 more during the year, your next annual renewal will be based on 5 member seats.
Additional considerations
N here refers to multiple seats/roles, without a specific limit or fixed count.
1 Organization can have many seats (1 → N)
1 Seat belongs to 1 Member (1 Member → 1 Seat).
1 Organization can have many Roles (N)
1 Role can belong to many Members.
But each Member has exactly 1 Role.
Roles are independent of seat purchases.
Add unlimited members (N) to an organization and pay per seat.
Monthly Subscription: $12/month per member; Annual Subscription: $10/month per member
