Overview
When you connect your first app, such as Shopify or WooCommerce, to AfterShip Tracking, you get a one-time free import of your historical shipments. Shipments imported within your free allowance don't count toward your billing quota, so you can start tracking right away without worrying about unexpected charges.
This article explains how the free import works, how much you can import for free, and what happens if your import exceeds the free allowance.
Note: The free import is available on the Free, Essentials, and Premium plans.
How the free import works
When you connect your first app, AfterShip Tracking automatically imports your historical shipments using the default import settings. Shipments imported within your free allowance are not deducted from your billing quota.
Keep the following in mind:
The free import is granted once per organization, when you connect an app for the very first time.
If your first import fails and no shipments are imported, your free allowance isn't used. You can reconnect or retry the import and still qualify.
If your store was previously connected and imported under a different organization, reconnecting it under a new organization doesn't qualify for the free import.
Free import allowance by plan
Your free import allowance depends on your plan at the time you connect your first app. The allowance stays the same even if you upgrade or downgrade your plan later.
Your plan when you connect your first app | Free import allowance |
Free | 200 shipments |
Essentials | 500 shipments |
Premium | 2,000 shipments |
What happens during your first import
If your import is within the free allowance
Applies to: Free, Essentials, and Premium plans
All your historical shipments are imported automatically, and no quota is consumed.
If your import exceeds the free allowance
Applies to: Free, Essentials, and Premium plans
AfterShip Tracking imports the shipments within your free allowance by default. To import the remaining shipments, sync them from the Shipment Dashboard.
The shipments beyond the free allowance follow your plan's standard billing. They consume your plan quota and may incur overage charges, depending on your plan.
What doesn't qualify for the free import
Applies to: Free, Essentials, and Premium plans
The free import applies only to your organization's first app connection. The following scenarios don't qualify:
CSV imports, API imports, or manual imports
Shipments that exceed the free allowance on your first import
Ongoing automatic imports after your initial import completes
Reconnecting an app after you disconnect it
Connecting additional stores under the same app
Connecting a second or third app
Connecting a store that was previously imported under a different organization
If your import doesn't qualify for the free allowance, AfterShip Tracking calculates the number of shipments to import and shows you the expected quota impact before the import starts. You can then choose to proceed, adjust your import rules, or cancel. You can also use an alternative method, such as CSV import, to import your shipments.
View your free usage on the Billing page
Shipments imported for free appear as Free Usage in your billing usage breakdown. Free usage is displayed separately from your regular quota consumption and doesn't count toward your billing quota bar.
Key takeaways
Connecting your first app to AfterShip Tracking gets you a one-time free import of historical shipments that won't touch your billing quota.
Your free allowance depends on your plan at the time of connection (200 to 2,000 shipments) and stays locked in even if you change plans later.
If your import exceeds the allowance, only the free portion imports automatically; you can sync the rest from the Shipment Dashboard, where standard billing applies.
The perk applies once per organization, so reconnections, extra stores, additional apps, and CSV or API imports don't qualify.
Free-imported shipments show up as Free Usage on your Billing page, kept separate from your regular quota consumption.
